Today I would like to introduce one of my favorite game, Zeliard. Zeliard was published in 1990 by Sierra. Even though the game comes with 16-color EGA graphics, but the artists did a good job in making it look really nice. Zeliard support some major sound cards, and the soundtracks is quite nice actually.
Unlike other action games around 1990, Zeliard comes with a good introduction and story line to get us involved. There are 9 levels in Zeliard, and the difficulties grow from one level to another.
Our strength will upgrade during our journey. When we kill enough monsters, we can go to seek one of the dark masters to upgrade our strength and teach us new magic. At the beginning of the game, we have only two life scale, and will grow to twenty life scale at maximum level.
There are towns between levels. In town, we can buy weapon upgrades, seek dark master, and buy magic from magic store.
To prevent our money from disappearing when we die in the middle of the game, we can save it in the bank.
The weapon that we can buy will improve when we go to the shop in the higher level. There is an inventory screen for us to check our belongings.
At the end of each level, there are bosses around to be defeated. Some are quite easy to defeat, but some are really hard to defeat.
You can get Zeliard here. You should get DosBox to run the game. I spend almost two months to complete the game when I was thirteen. Hopefully you can do better :)
