Al-Qadim: The Genie's Curse is published by Strategic Simulations, the same publisher for Eye of the Beholder. It is also an official Advanced Dungeons & Dragons game. Al-Qadim was released in 1994, just one year before the release of Windows 95. This is the time where DOS games start using protected mode for more memory.
Al-Qadim is an action-adventure-role-playing game. It has all the action, adventure and role-playing elements in it. The game start in a pretty fast action mode, which immediately let us know that it has some action elements like Prince of Persia series.
The game start in a pretty fast action mode. After we meet our master who train us to become a Corsair, the action start immediately.
Al-Qadim has action elements like those in Prince of Persia series, but the bad part is our hero cannot jump. We can only control him to move around and hit enemies with sword.
After we complete the introduction level, we become a Corsair and return to our home city. After completing a few simple tasks, the real story begins. Our family has been setup by our enemies and all family members have been chained in prison. The bride of our hero also being captured by an evil genie.
Our mission is to start our adventure to clear our family name and get our bride back. As Al-Qadim is written based Arabic background, there are quite some genies that we will meet in the game.
The combat system in Al-Qadim is pretty straight forward. Run-and-hit is the usual method that we will use. There are some upgrades that we will get during the game to enhance the power of our swords. There are also some pickups that can assist us in our journey like invulnerability potion.
