Lands of Lore was published by Virgin and produced by Westwood in 1993. The look and feel of Lands of Lore is very similar to Eye of the Beholder.
In Lands of Lore, our mission is to defend Gladstone by killing the evil witch. A nice introduction is included in Lands of Lore to give us an idea of what is happening.
And we start the game in the castle of Gladstone. After meeting the king, we will be order to retrieve the Ruby of Truth in South Lands. The quest begins here.
Lands of Lore try to improve the game engine in several aspects. The most obvious one is the artificial smooth transition from one spot to another spot. Unlike in Eye of Beholder, we will move gently and not jump from one square to another square.
The graphics and animations is in higher quality too. We can at least see the characters move and do some action instead of one static image.
There are numerous puzzles to be solved in Lands of Lore. If you have finish playing Eye of the Beholder series, the puzzles in Lands of Lore should be easily solved.
Even though we are alone in the beginning, we can recruit new team members during the game.
The combat and magic system remain almost the same with Eye of the Beholder series. The enemies in Lands of Lore are easier to be defeated.
In conclusion, if you like Eye of the Beholder, you should try Lands of Lore. Quite a nice game after all. You can get the game and the manual here.
