If you aged around 30 and never heard of Double Dragon, then you must be living inside a cave when you were young. Double Dragon is a very popular arcade game released by Taito in 1987. It is originally a game for arcade machine, and was later ported to various platforms due to its popularity.
The DOS version of Double Dragon support 4-color CGA graphics and 16-color EGA graphics. Sound cards is not supported, hence we will be served with PC Speaker sound effects. And in EGA mode, the sprite animation is not full, some frames are cut to accommodate with the limited memory on PC at that era.
The story line of Double Dragon is pretty straight forward. Five years after a nuclear war, where gangs and criminal organizations have taken control of New York City, Billy and Jimmy Lee, the titular duo and the successors of a fictional martial arts style known as Sōsetsuken, need to fight through the bad guys and grab back Billy's girlfriend.
The gameplay of Double Dragon is quite interesting though. We can fight the bad guys with arm, knee, standing kick and also jumping kick.
On some parts of the game, we can pick up some weapon like knife, curvy sword and baseball bat. We can also pick up box, oil barrel and stone to hit the enemies
There is also no challenge when we fight with only one bad guy. But in the game, we normally need to fight with a few bad guys simultaneously, and this is where the challenging part lie in.
Overall, Double Dragon is a good old day arcade game. You can download Double Dragon here.
